Becareful: Bush meat can expose you to Ebola

One can contract the Ebola Virus Disease by eating raw and infected bush meat. Scientists say consumption and preparation of meat from forest animals, such as fruit bats, monkeys and chimpanzees is behind the transmission of Ebola, which has killed over 660 persons in the last six months in West Africa.

They have linked the recent outbreak of Ebola — a disease that causes its victims to bleed to death– to the indiscriminate consumption of raw bush meat and other exotic animals.

For one, meats from grass cutters, antelopes, gorillas and chimpanzees are a preferred delicacy in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, countries where the virus is spreading like wildfire.

Veterinary expert, Dr. Femi Oboye, notes that game meats are known hosts to Ebola, anthrax and yellow fever and some other deadly fever. Those residing in countries with poor meat inspection policy are at a greater risk of contracting the virus.

Doctor who treated more than 100 Ebola patients dies from the virus

The Sierra Leone-an doctor who treated more than 100 Ebola patients has also died. Dr Sheik Umar Khan (pictured above), who was hailed as a national hero for disregarding his own health and helping sick patients, died today July 29th from the disease after being diagnosed with the virus last week. He contacted the virus despite wearing protective gear when treating patients.

In an interview last month, the 39yr old doctor had expressed fears for his life because of his constant contact with Ebola patients.

"I am afraid for my life. Health workers are prone to the disease because we are the first port of call for somebody who is sickened by the disease. Even with the full protective clothing you put on, you are at risk" He told Reuters
His death comes days after a senior doctor at Liberia's largest hospital, Samuel Brisbane, died on Saturday at an Ebola treatment center in Monrovia. 3 nurses working in the same Ebola treatment centre alongside Khan also died from the disease last week. Several other medics have been infected.

Girl’s Galaxy S4 Smartphone Burns Under Her Pillow as She Sleeps

Charging our devices as we sleep feels like a harmless routine. For one young Samsung smartphone owner, however, that habit almost turned heated.

Last week, a 13-year-old North Texas girl plugged her Samsung Galaxy S4 in for its nightly juice-up before hitting the sack, only to be awoken by the smell of something burning hours later. When she got up and searched around for the source of the stench, she realized that she had wedged her charging phone under her pillow. And not only was the backside of the pillow scorched, but the phone was fried into an unrecognizable slab of plastic and melted components.

The event, according to FOX 4, left the family a bit surprised.
“We have a reasonable expectation that the products we buy are going to be safe,” the girl’s father said. He told FOX that he suspects that the phone overheated, causing the battery to swell and start a fire.

Photos: Python swallows Antelope then spews out its dead body

The jaw dropping moment a giant Python swallowed a baby Antelope was captured on camera by animal rescuer Nitish Bambhaniya in the village of Billa in Gujarat, India.

"I got a call in the morning for an Indian rock python. When we reached the spot, we saw this massive python. The python had hunted a baby blue bull and had already eaten 80% of the bull's body. It is on the edge of an open field, so lots of locals start gathering there." Nitish said
As people gathered, with many saying the snake should be killed as it could be a danger to them, the snake known as the Indian Rock Python stopped swallowing the antelope & let go of its lifeless body
"Pythons do it so that they can shed body weight and escape faster. Meanwhile, we convinced the villagers not to kill the python and they agreed. Later we caught the python and handed it over to the forest department officials." Nitish said
The python was released by the officials in a nearby forest, before slithering away to freedom. See pics of the action after the cut...

"The last time I visited her in India, even when she needed all the prayers herself, she was full of concern for the abducted Chibok girls, security and other challenges facing the country and told me that she remained prayerful for the release of those girls and for God to help President Goodluck Jonathan to overcome all the challenges facing the Nation. I just hope that I will be as good a mom to my child... as my mother was to me," she said.

Is it over with Paul and Peter of P-Square?

When Jude Okoye didn't show up for Peter Okoye and Lola Omotayo's wedding in Lagos, it became clear to all discerning minds that all is not well with the three brothers - Jude, Peter and Paul. But they dismissed all talks about crisis. Sources told us that the problem is all about how to share the money and other source said  one of the wives is causing some of the problems between the brothers.

But it seems the center can no longer hold and Judge Okoye has dropped a hint on the social media.
